It’s safe to say it’s always a great idea to plan a trip to Curacao, an idyllic Dutch Caribbean island that lies in the southern Caribbean Sea. Unlike many other islands in the region, Curacao is a desert island, gets very little rain, and is safely below the hurricane belt. Truly, it’s an island that can be visited anytime.
Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival Tips
Once a year, though, there is a particularly special reason why we believe anyone and everyone should travel to this slice of paradise: Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival August 30, 31, and September 1. Among the biggest events to take place on the island each year, the Jazz Fest is a three-day music festival featuring world-famous artists from a variety of music genres. Headliners for this year’s event include Sting, Shaggy, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green.
People travel from around the world to enjoy three days of swaying in the pleasant breeze while listening to killer musical performances. It’s truly a remarkable experience, and if you’re planning on attending this year, we’ve got some helpful tips for you!
When to Arrive at the Island
As you browse flight itineraries, we highly recommend selecting one that arrives a day or two prior to the festival, and a return flight a few days post-festival. The festival is high-energy and fun, much more upbeat than the typical laid-back island vibe, so if you extend your trip, you’ll have plenty of time, also, to get to know typical Curacao. Arriving early will give you time to get settled, and staying a few extra days afterward will allow you to decompress and enjoy the more peaceful aspects of the island.
How to Dress
Considering the festival takes places at the end of August and beginning of September, you’ll want to wear cool, breezy, comfortable clothing. Spending hours standing and dancing is a great time and is greatly enhanced by clothes that aren’t restrictive or hot. We also recommend shoes that are comfortable enough to spend a few hours standing in. If you’re going to have a purse, choose your smallest and most compact one.
How to Spend Your Days
The concerts don’t begin until 7 and 7:30 pm each day, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the island during the daytime. Head to one of Curacao’s best beaches, or head out for a day of sailing, snorkeling, or scuba diving. If you’re in the mood for a little more culture, we recommend going to one or more of Curacao’s many incredible museums!
Stay Hydrated and Nourished
The weather will be warm and the evenings will be full of energy, so we offer a friendly reminder to drink plenty of water and eat nourishing meals throughout the day!
