Bon Voyage! After all of the trip planning and booking, it’s super exciting to finally get to the packing and packing list part!
Once you begin gathering the necessary items for a vacation, it’s safe to say your vacation is just around the corner.
No two destinations are exactly alike, and therefore it’s a smart idea to do a bit of research beforehand to find out which items you should pack.
Hot, cold, humid, dry, sunshine, rain, water, mountains, there are endless factors that will influence your packing list!
We certainly can’t guide your packing list for a cruise to Alaska or a trek to Machu Picchu, but we certainly can help you determine what to bring on your Caribbean getaway to Curaçao!
Located in the southern part of the Caribbean, beneath the hurricane belt, and just 40 miles from South America, Curaçao is a spectacular place to visit. To ensure your trip is nothing but sunshine and relaxation, we’ve got the best Curaçao packing tips ready for you!
Spoiler – packing for a trip to Curaçao is pretty simple!
1. Less is More
The best part of island life is the sheer lack of clothing needed. Yes, you will need some clothes, but not many. We’re talking swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, shorts, tanks, flowy dresses, and/or whatever else you think you’ll want to wear. As far as weather goes, it’ll be warm and sunny! Lightweight, airy clothes are ideal. Definitely check the weather report ahead of time to see if there will be any rain. It’s unlikely as Curaçao is actually a desert island and gets very little rain! But, in case any rain is forecasted, you might want to bring an umbrella or light rain jacket.
2. Consider Your Activities
Are you an avid scuba diver? You may want to bring your own snorkel and mask. Intending on mountain biking (yes, there’s mountain biking on Curaçao!) you may want to bring the appropriate attire for that! Overall, just take a look at your scheduled activities to see if you may need certain apparel for any of them.
3. Curaçao Isn’t a Fancy Place, But You May Want to Get Dressed Up
Curaçao is a quintessential laid-back island. If you have no intention or desire to dress fancy, no problem! For many, vacation is a fun time to get dressed up and go out to eat or out dancing, and if that’s the case then definitely pack a nice outfit or two!
4. Sun Protection
Curaçao is all sunshine all the time! Though we all love vitamin D, you don’t want to be dealing with a sunburn while on vacation! A few sun essentials are sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, light cover-ups. Of course, all of these items can be found and purchased on the island, but you might prefer items you already have. If you forget an item, break one, or lose one, not to worry, you can re-stock while on vacation! These days, many hats and cover -ups feature UPF protection in the actual clothes! If you’re more sensitive to the sun or are committed to keeping your skin healthy, you might want to consider these items!
5. Water Play
One of Curaçao’s biggest draws is its beautiful beaches and water activities! A few items you’ll want to have are:
- Plenty of swimsuits! Not only is it fun to wear a different one each day (if you want), but you also won’t have to wait for one to dry to wear it again if you don’t wish to.
- Sturdy Swimsuits – Some water activities are rougher and will, therefore, be more enjoyable if one’s swimsuit can handle it! Kitesurfing, namely.
- Water Shoes – You will definitely want water shoes to protect your feet from getting scratched on the coral.
6. Pack Essentials in Carry-On
This is a fabulous packing tip for any trip. We always hope all of our luggage will arrive promptly when we do, but this isn’t always the case. Just in case, it’s a smart idea to pack any/all essentials into your carry on. Have a bikini you can’t live without? Favorite hat for the past five vacations? Important medications? Pack all of those items in your carry on!
7. Consider Technology Needs
Can’t wait to take a kayaking selfie? Great! Just make sure you have a waterproof phone case or waterproof camera. Vacationing solo? Don’t forget a selfie stick! Want to go hiking? Bring some sort of backpack or bag to carry the camera in with you. Planning on catching up on some reading while lying on the beach? Don’t forget your Kindle charger!
8. Specific Curaçao Security Needs
Every country has different requirements for entry. Here’s what you need for Curacao:
- Valid Passport
- Proof of return ticket
- Hotel/Accommodation Address
9. Extra Packing Considerations
- Light sweater or shawl
- Beach bag
- Deck of cards
- Bottle opener
- Ziplock Bags (useful for so many different things)
- Electronic Adapter
- Extra memory cards
- Extra batteries
- Bug repellent
Hopefully, this list helps narrow down your packing list! Or at least, helps you determine what’s needed and what isn’t. Most importantly – don’t stress it! If you forget something, you can replace it or do without it. As long as you, your phone, your money, and your passport make it to Curacao, everything else will work out! And hey, you can certainly get by without a phone if you need, or want, too!
