By Land or Sea. At Santa Barbara, Adventure Awaits

Many destinations around the world boast spectacular landscapes or seascapes, yet how many offer both?

Not many…

If you’re looking for the perfect land and sea combo destination, narrow down the search initially by looking at Caribbean islands, many of which offer a nice blend of the two landscapes.

But does that really narrow down the search much? Considering there are hundreds of islands in the region, one’s search is hardly narrowed down.

Let us offer up our little slice of paradise as a consideration for your next getaway – Curaçao. Curaçao itself has a pristine coastline as well as unique and diverse landscapes.

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf ResortGetting even more specific, there’s one coastal resort on the island that boasts 2,000 acres of land all to itself.

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort is truly a destination of its own, perfect for exploring the watery depths of the Caribbean Sea and trekking across the island’s diverse Caribbean landscapes.

It can be enjoyable to rent a car, map the route and research the adventures and journeys ahead. But, often times with the busy pace of everyday life, it’s nice to retreat somewhere where everything you’d like to do and see is conveniently located nearby. That’s exactly the experience you’ll have at Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort.

If that sounds magnificent, just wait until you get a quick synopsis of everything visitors can see and do on the resort grounds.

Wetter is Better

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf ResortCuraçao loves its water activities, and Santa Barbara offers them all. The expansive beachfront resort has the ocean, bay and pool(s) to satisfy your every watery need. You can expect to participate in any of the following:

  • Sailing Adventures
  • Scuba training or individual excursions
  • Snorkeling
  • Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding
  • Lounging beachside, bayside or poolside
  • Swimming in your choice of pool, ocean or bay

For When You’d Rather be Dry

There’s much more to the Caribbean than beautiful coast lines! Santa Barbara used to be a plantation back in the day, and as such the resort sits on the original 2,000 acres of beautiful land. Explore on your own or ask for a guided tour from a friendly staff member. With 2,000 acres at your disposal it’s unlikely you’ll run out of places to venture to. We suggest trying:

  • Mountain bike tours, rentals and trails
  • The only hydro-grid clay tennis court in the Caribbean
  • Pete Dye’s Old Quarry golf course – one of the best in the Caribbean
  • Historic Well Tour -discover the island’s first freshwater well

We could say it’s non-stop adventure at Santa Barbara but that wouldn’t be altogether accurate.

The truth is, Santa Barbara offers the option for non-stop adventure, but there’s also the option for complete and utter relaxation. You don’t have to do it all or see it all each day, or even in a single visit. Find peace of mind knowing that every desired activity is within easy reach, but so is the option to do absolutely nothing other than bask in the peaceful serenity of the island.

Stay tuned for next week’s blog when we will feature our top 3 favorite land and sea activities!

Feel free to contact us at any time for questions, inquiries or a mutual love for Curaçao!

To ensure your experience at Santa Barbara is top notch, we’ve compiled a variety of vacation packages to meet your every need! Find out which one fits you best right here.

You Want to Get to Curaçao. Here’s How.

Curaçao.

A familiar word to many, images of delicious tropical tasting cocktails may come to mind. Some are familiar with the geography of the Caribbean and recognize the word as the name of an island.

Still, it’s safe to say that in many circles Curaçao flies under the radar

As far as Caribbean getaways go, you’ll really be getting far away by visiting Curaçao, depending on where you live.

Get a Look at the Adventurous Side of Curaçao

When we think of “Curaçao” likely two images come to mind: a delicious blue liqueur and/or a slice of Caribbean paradise.

Curacao is the namesake of the blue liqueur and the original birthplace of it. Curaçao is also an idyllic Caribbean island surrounded by sparkling turquoise water.

Yet, unlike many other Caribbean islands, Curaçao has much to be discovered on land. That’s right, not just a pretty plot of land famous for its beaches, rather Curaçao is a pretty plot of land with incredible beaches, culture, landscape, history, and adventure.

In fact, Curaçao doesn’t just have a few land adventures, it has tons of them.

Tour the Island
a la ATV

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf ResortNothing beats getting down and dirty on an ATV or buggy ride. You can ride alone or with a pal. Your guide will be sure to give you the basics of ATV driving if you’ve never tried it before. Typically there will be an array of tour options, ranging from half day to full day. Also the tours are usually split up into “East” and “West” allowing you to choose which parts of the island you want to see most. Depending on which tour you choose you’ll have different stops along the way to places such as the Aloe Vera plantation, caves, incredible views, etc. This is definitely an epic way to experience the island!

Two Incredible National Parks

Every destination should have at least one national park, and for an island as small as Curaçao, it’s amazing that it has two!

  • Christoffel Park – The island’s largest national park, Christoffel features Mt. Christoffel which is the island’s tallest peak. There are a plethora of hiking trails, plants, and animals to enjoy. This is also a favorite place for bird watching,
  • Shete Boka Park – This is for explorers who prefer to be off the beaten track, so to speak. You can explore the rocky wave-exposed north coast of the island, also where three species of turtles lay their eggs. The beginning of the park is at the breathtaking Boka Tabla, a place where enormous waves crash into an underground cavern. A favorite hike here is along the limestone bluffs above the cavern, which offers excellent views of the coastline.

Amazonia – The Lost Cultures

One of the newer attractions on the island, The Amazonia Tour is quite the experience. At this attraction you will see dozens of Mayan, Aztec, and Incan sculptures, carvings, and murals. You’ll be guided on a tour that will take you across 45,000 square feet of rainforest, temple ruins, ponds and pyramids. Basically you can feel like Indiana Jones as you get a glimpse at what the cultures of South and Central America and the Caribbean might have felt like, way back when. This is certainly not your typical Caribbean island experience, which makes it that much more fascinating and fun.

Visit an Actual Ostrich Farm

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf ResortThis is a real thing. Basically you go to the farm and get to play with Ostriches all day long. You can take a safari tour, a quad tour, and feel like you’re in a South African Caribbean dreamland.

Biking Adventure on Santa Barbara Plantation

As soon as you arrive at Santa Barbara Plantation, you’ll immediately understand why there is so much to explore.  The expansive 2,000 acre plantation features breathtaking rock formations, beautiful caves and caverns, stunning views, and a diverse variety of flora and fauna. Rent a bike and explore the property on your own. Or, go for our morning jog using our miles of trails. Take a guided morning hike to learn about the plantation, Curaçao, and the island’s unique eco-system.

Explore the Hato Caves

What were once used as hiding places, shelter, and art galleries, are now part of Curaçao’s right history. The Hato Caves are north of the capital – Willemstad – and are open to the public to take tours through. A really neat experience!

Experience Curacao’s Colorful History

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf ResortCuraçao has had quite the eventful history, and a great many cultural influences over the past few centuries. Because of that, there are ample museums to enjoy, and really neat walking tours. You can take a self-guided tour through Willemstad, Otrabanda, and Punda to get a taste of urban life and history on the island. For details on the museums and architecture of the island, visit here.

Next time you’re in Curaçao, whether it’s the first time or not, we hope you take a bit of time to explore some of these land activities!

Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort, nestled beachfront within 2,000 acre plantation, is the ideal destination for adventure seekers.  The resort offers guided hiking and mountain biking tours, and miles of mountain trails for guests to explore on their own.  For those who want to venture out to sea, the resort offers an on-site dive and watersports center, offering Discover SCUBA courses, boat and shore diving, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and more.
